RBC Discovering Chevalier de Saint-Georges Workshop Details
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – Wednesday 30th September – 1:15pm-2:30pm
FREE Inspirational workshop for secondary school students from year 9 to 13
During the workshop, students will:
- explore the life and music of the extraordinary black French violinist, composer and conductor Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-99)
- learn about the man who also the greatest fencer in Europe, played music with Marie Antoinette, fought off two assassination attempts and commanded the first black regiment in Europe.
- discover his music in live performances by professional chamber musicians from I musicanti alongside Conservatoire musicians
- see and hear different approaches to playing the music
The workshop will be led by Christopher Dingle, editor of the Schott Saint-Georges Edition and BBC Music Magazine critic.
